AVOR is a grassroots 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was founded with the purpose to serve children/families affected by incarceration.
We desire children/families to have access to the resources necessary to ensure future self-sustainability regardless of their previous socioeconomic classification. AVOR programs will facilitate positive development to our clients by providing them with the necessary tools to navigate their lives and remaining absent from the criminal system.
While many families of disadvantaged backgrounds may have the drive and inspiration to succeed, most lack the training and funding to make their dreams a reality. We help bridge that gap!
Our Beliefs
We believe that development is a process, not a goal. People continue to develop throughout their lifetimes and therefore promoting human development is an enduring, overarching purpose, and not a goal ever finally achieved.
Our Values
We also subscribe to the notion that positive development leads to what is known as the “Five C’s’’:
*Competence, Character, Connections, Confidence, and Contributions*
Competence includes knowledge and skills that enable a person to function more effectively to understand and act on the environment.
Character is what makes a person intend to do what is just, right, and good.
Connections refer to social relations, especially with adults, but also with peers and with young people.
Confidence is the assuredness a person needs to act effectively, enabling a person to build confidence and character in challenging situations.
Contribution, sometimes referred to as compassion, relates to a person using these other attributes not only for self-centered purposes but also to give to others. (Hamilton & Hamilton 1994).
Robin Figueroa found her passion for helping others through her own family’s personal experiences. She often witnessed family members go in and out of prison, observed their addictions, and desperately wanted to help. However, when her brother was incarcerated for a crime he didn’t commit and spent years in jail, she quickly put that desire to help in action. She started helping families during the Christmas holiday, then during back to school which led to her vision for Redemption.
A Vision of Redemption (AVOR) was founded to assist families in need but Robin wanted to focus on incarceration as she remembered how it affected other family members during her childhood. Her Brother’s incarceration inspired her to put her faith, and genuine love for others into practice.
She is the mother of three beautiful princesses and the wife of Carlos “Elliam” Figueroa. Together they have worked to assist many in their community and churches.
Robin has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and an MBA in Business Management. She has experience in various fields. Yet, she believes her calling is to aid those who have been forgotten or appear to be unwanted by society. She realized that the battle wouldn’t be easy but she was certainly up for the challenge of being a voice for the voiceless.
She presently serves as the Executive Director of AVOR. She strives to touch the lives of the hungry, the homeless and the imprisoned holistically and desires to encourage, uplift and strengthen the hope of men, and women who are and were incarcerated, abandoned, abused and are reentering society through job training, family counseling, social services, rehabilitation and knowing their legal rights. She has recently finished her studies as a Chaplain at the Florida Theological Chaplaincy Academy. She is excited about what the future holds for her and looks forward to leaving a lasting legacy in her church, community and in the lives of the people she comes in contact with.
Robin believes that it is essential to contribute in taking preventative measures to shield young men and women from entering into the Justice system. Through her faith and genuine concern for others, she continues to work toward her goal of one day opening a halfway house that will provide all the resources needed for those transitioning from the corrections system and their families.
